DISTINGUISHED ENGINEER - DIRECTOR FOR UNMANNED SURFACE VEHICLES (USVs)

Responsibilities
You will serve as the Distinguished Engineer - Director for Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), providing enterprise-wide scientific and engineering leadership for USV technology development
You will serve as Director of USVs Distinguished Scientist/Engineer, providing technical leadership and expertise in the development and implementation of advanced technologies for unmanned surface vehicles
You will lead and coordinate unmanned surface vehicle research, development, test, and experimentation across a broad network
You will provide executive direction and strategic vision for the research, development, test, evaluation, and integration of USV technologies and systems across the Navy's warfare centers
You will represent NSWC and the Navy as a USV subject matter expert at various technical forums and will provide technical guidance and recommendations across departments at NSWCCD
You will provide technical expertise, supervision, and direction to division engineers and scientists in USV testing, USV modeling and simulation, and USV applicable technology development
You will lead the planning and budgeting activities for USV-related programs, providing program sponsors and Warfare Center leadership with technical workload projections and skill assessments
You will ensure USV systems are safe, reliable, effective, and operationally suitable for their intended missions
You will be responsible for stewardship of USV Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT and E) and operating budget

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites

Demonstrated experience leading research, development, test and evaluation (RDT&E) efforts, from basic research to prototyping and deployment, for unmanned surface vehicle systems and technologies
Demonstrated ability to furnish highly advanced and/or unprecedented scientific and/or technical guidance and recommendations to top-level administrative and technical management officials within the NR&DE, DON, DOD, other government agencies, and outside organizations such as academia and industry
Successful completion of a bachelor's or higher engineering degree from an accredited college or university
Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico
Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board
Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences
Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance
Preferred
An advanced degree of Master's or Ph.D. in one of the educational fields listed above is highly desirable
