Financial Systems Accountant

Responsibilities
Perform and support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis
Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards
Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
Support internal and external audits by ensuring systems are properly documented and controls are in place
Provide financial data for external surveys and reports
Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor financial performance and KPIs
Analyze large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement
Maintain internal database files and tables and develop custom reports/queries to meet the needs of the finance department and university leadership
Serve as a subject matter expert and collaborate with university departments to integrate and automate financial systems
Manage internal and external system upgrades, integrations, configurations, user permissions, and data integrity across platforms
Ensure systems comply with financial regulations and internal controls. Monitor system performance and conduct regular audits
Troubleshoot system issues and work with IT, university departments, and vendors to resolve problems
Participate in system and process re-engineering efforts and automation
Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and workflows, including billing, grant accounting, and endowment reporting, to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability
Conduct assessment of software and hardware needs and design new or modified systems to meet changing demands. Evaluate the impact of changes and recommend enhancements
Maintain documentation of procedures and develop training materials for system users and finance staff. Provide training to staff on financial systems and maintain documentation for system processes and procedures
Provide training and support to finance staff and departmental users on system functionality and best practices
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred)
Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Power Query, pivot tables, lookups)
Hands-on experience with ERP, financial reporting, and automation platforms or AI agents (e.g., Jenzabar, Vena, Supervity, UiPath)
Broad knowledge of techniques in collecting data, analyzing information, generating reports, programming, SQL, or other data querying languages
Innovative with an eagerness to learn new processes and naturally curious
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of financial internal controls and compliance frameworks
Self-starter and ability to work within a team, independently, and collaboratively across the university
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in a data or systems-focused role
