PDM - Small Molecule Drug Substance Intern

Responsibilities
Work under the supervision of experienced team member(s) to carry out tasks related to the evaluation of synthetic organic reactions related to the drug substance process development, that can be in the content of route exploration or process optimization
Plan and execute organic reactions, gather relevant data, leveraging state-of-the-art technology such as NMR, HPLC, LCMS, and interpretate the results
Communicate the results in written reports and at times present the results in group settings
Contribute to the team effort in developing efficient, innovative synthetic processes for new drug substances that are potentially part of scientific journal publications
Conduct the work following the Arcus corporate policies such as safety rules and data integrity and other employee code of conduct
Qualification
Required
Enrolled as full time graduate student pursuing either MS degree or PhD degree in Organic Chemistry
Preferably, has completed core course requirements for MS or PhD degree and ready to start graduate level research
At least one semester research experience that is focused on experimental work in chemistry lab
Fully familiar with common analytical and separation techniques such as flash column chromatography, NMR, HPLC and LCMS
Proficient in required software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ChemDraw
All applicants must be actively enrolled in an accredited academic program for Fall 2026
Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds
Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts
Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls
Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job
Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours
Ability to lift heavy objects, possibly weighing up to 50 pounds
Position may require repetitive motion
May require working near blood borne pathogens
May require work in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research
Position may at times require the employee to work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present
Employee must perform tasks that require the use of personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and shoes, protective clothing and gloves, and possibly a respirator
May require extended or unusual work hours based on research requirements and business needs
