$18/hr - $20/hrThe University of Utah is seeking a highly motivated research technician to join the newly formed Hobbs Lab within the Department of Biochemistry. The role involves performing technical procedures in enzyme biochemistry, protein structural biology, and immune signaling pathways during viral infection, while also assisting with lab management and participating in research projects.

Responsibilities
Perform technical procedures in a research laboratory under minimal supervision by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles
Assist with general lab management, preparation of reagents and recombinant enzymes, and ordering of lab supplies
Work closely with all members of the lab, participate and present in lab meetings, and have the opportunity to pursue an individual research project and co-author publications
Maintain stocks of common laboratory proteins including polymerase and protease enzymes
Prepare common laboratory solutions, competent cells and reagents
Maintain a detailed notebook of protocols and research activities
Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas
Responsible for ordering lab supplies and communicating with vendors
Manage lab safety and communicate and work with Environmental Health and Safety
Qualification
Required
1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience
Research Technician, I: Requires little to no related experience
Research Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience
Research Technician, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience
Research Technician, IV: Requires 5+ years of related experience
Preferred
At least 1.5-2.0 years of availability
Previous laboratory experience in protein purification, tissue culture, or microbial culturing
