Responsibilities
Maintaining a fully staffed fire department is one of the most difficult challenges in today’s fire service environment. What strategies have you implemented or would you implement to recruit, develop, and retain firefighters at all levels? Include how you assess candidate quality, reduce turnover, build promotional depth, and maintain culture while hiring under pressure
What is your leadership philosophy, and how do you bring people with you through organizational change? Provide a specific example of a change you led within your organization, what the resistance was, how you communicated direction, and what the final outcome was
Walk me through your experience developing and managing a fire department budget. How do you balance operational needs, capital purchases, and fiscal responsibility, and what strategies do you use during financial limitations?
How do you ensure consistency in operations across multiple battalion chiefs, and what systems or approaches do you use to monitor performance, response capability, compliance, and organizational effectiveness?
Tell us about an innovation or operational improvement you have implemented in a previous agency. How did you evaluate need, build buy-in, measure impact, and sustain results?
Given that this position manages emergency medical operations, transport, quality assurance, and training programs, what is your philosophy on EMS CQI, and what steps would you take in your first 90 days to evaluate system performance?
