Responsibilities
Serves as the State Fire Management Officer for BLM Fire - Alaska
Provides supervision and oversight of state fire programs to carry out the mission of the organization
Plans, organizes and oversees efforts and projects that improve the quality, effectiveness, and timeliness of the fire program
Serves as a senior advisor to management and executive leadership on developing and implementing strategic plans in support of the fire program objectives
Develops and implements fire plans and initiatives
Develops priorities for effective use of resources
Implements performance metrics to manage and monitor the operational efficiencies of the organization
Interprets national program guidance and leads the development of specific policies, plans, and programs necessary to carry out all aspects of the fire and aviation program

You cannot hold an active real estate license; nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Land

Appointment will be subject to a favorably adjudicated background/suitability investigation/determination
Supervisory Probationary Period: If you are selected for this position, you will be required to serve a one year supervisory probationary period if one has not previously been completed
If selected for this position, you will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 within 30 days of reporting to duty
You must meet specified levels on annual physical fitness tests, and pass periodic medical exams for wildland fire personnel, commensurate with current incident management qualification
You must pass a pre-employment physical
You must also pass the work capacity test for arduous positions
Applicant(s) tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use and to pass the test prior to appointment
This position may require regular and recurring overtime and shift work during peak fire season
May require completion of a one year probationary period
Applicants appointed to this position must POSSESS and maintain a valid state driver's license
To qualify for the GW-15 grade level, 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to GW/GS-14 is required
This position requires a special qualification that has been determined to be essential to perform the duties and will be used as a screen out element
This position has been identified as one of the key fire management positions under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard
To meet IFPM requirements, you must have possessed all of the following National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) incident management qualifications and training requirements to be considered eligible for this position
You must meet all qualification and selective placement factor requirements by the closing date of the announcement

Travel and relocation expenses will be paid consistent with the Federal Travel Regulation, Chapter 302, and Departmental policy.
You will also receive a 1.49% cost of living allowance.
