The role involves advancing nucleic-acid extraction chemistry, sample-prep workflow development, and integrating these workflows onto the instrument platform while leading a small team.

Responsibilities

Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot nucleic-acid extraction and sample-prep workflows

Integrate workflows into custom prototypes and alpha-level instrument prototypes and consumable formats in close partnership with engineering

Collaborate with assay design and development teams to ensure compatibility, robustness, and performance

Provide steady leadership to a small technical team, fostering clarity, accountability, and effective communication

Contribute to workflow and architecture decisions that influence product functionality and future scalability

Support development of new pathogen panels and adaptation to additional sample types

Define performance criteria, conduct robustness assessments, and develop documentation supporting design transfer

Identify risks, propose mitigation strategies, and drive iterative improvements with composure and good judgment

Required

PhD + 4 years or MS + 7 years industry experience in molecular diagnostics, sample prep, or nucleic-acid extraction

Expertise in lysis chemistry, nucleic acid purification, and workflow design

Experience integrating chemistry or workflows into custom hardware platforms, consumable systems, or automated instruments

Experience with product development for FDA-regulated diagnostics, including familiarity with design control, documentation standards, and quality systems (ISO 13485 or similar)

Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a small team while remaining hands-on

Strong system-level intuition and ability to navigate evolving requirements with professionalism

Comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment

Preferred

Experience with point-of-care or near-patient diagnostic systems is a plus

Experience with CRISPR-based detection platforms is a plus but not required
