Senior Design to Cost Engineer

Responsibilities
Build and manage cost modeling tools and databases for accurate forecasting and analysis
Drive total cost of ownership reductions through analytics and cost forensics methodology
Develop and implement strategies for design for cost and value engineering across packaging and product systems
Create and manage Statements of Work (SOWs) for cost optimization projects and oversee execution
Drive organizational engagement and ensure successful implementation of new departmental service offerings by effectively influencing stakeholders and promoting adoption across business units
Conduct material and process analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities
Perform product tear-downs and value-add/value engineering on medical devices and packaging systems
Lead project management activities, including timelines, budgets, and stakeholder communication
Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Engineering, and Commercial teams to align design strategies with business objectives
Explore competitive sourcing strategies and assist in defining category procurement strategies
Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, GMP, FDA, CE standards, RoHS, and REACH in all recommendations
Lead project teams with staff up to 10 individuals and coordinate across corporate functions and divisions to share best practices
Develop engineering playbooks for evaluating package integrity for existing and new products
Provide alternate design recommendations, including intellectual property considerations
Monitor market dynamics and technology trends to incorporate innovations into Abbott products
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field; MBA a plus
Minimum 5 years of experience in Engineering and/or Supply Chain within the medical device or packaging industry
Strong analytical skills with proficiency in MS Excel and other reporting tools
Experience in cost modeling, value engineering, and supplier capability assessment
Proven project management experience, including SOW creation and execution
Strong communication and influencing skills; ability to drive adoption of new processes or services
Excellent program/project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams
Preferred
Experience in packaging technologies, plastics manufacturing, automated assembly or related field
Professional certifications such as PMP, CPSM, or CPM
Functional experience in Engineering, Quality, or Supply Chain
Knowledge of manufacturing processes for packaging and raw materials
International experience and supplier management expertise
Negotiation skills and ability to develop actionable implementation plans
