CDOC Architect I (Colorado Springs)-EXTENDED
NEOGOV is seeking a CDOC Architect I to join the Colorado Department of Corrections. The role involves performing professional services related to project management, master planning, and ensuring compliance with design guidelines and construction standards.

Responsibilities
Conceive, develop, and has "on-point" responsibility in the detailing of new projects, including Capital Construction, Controlled Maintenance, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Life Safety
Advise Project Representatives and Project Managers in resolution of project problems
Lead private sector design teams by interpreting the program/space requirements of various projects and reviews Schematic Design, Design Development, and Contract Documents to ensure compliance with design program and budget
Provide quality assurance for new project requests ensuring design parameters are consistent with existing Department guidelines and standards, and with legislative intent
Establish strategic planning and Facilities Master Plan. Leads responsibility for implementing and maintaining the physical plant record for the Department
Develop site and Office of Primary Responsibility specific facility master plans
Research and write facility program plans and collaborate with private sector design professionals to assure compliance with the design program and construction management
Prepare and evaluate requests for qualifications/proposals for professional services
Coordinate end users' wants and needs with overall Department strategic plan to assist the design teams in producing a project that can be justified and ultimately receive the appropriation necessary to implement
Perform other job related duties as assigned or required
Qualification
Required
Current, valid license as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors
Ability to function independently
Highly effective critical thinking/decision making/complex problem solving skills
Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings or other structures
Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technician plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
Excellent interpersonal/customer service skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and prioritize
Keen ability to multi-task and demonstrate flexibility
Strong self motivation
Proficient in various software applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, and Auto Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD)
Excellent attention to detail
Self-control, a strong sense of ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations
Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure and observant throughout their shift
Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high-stakes interaction
Ability to read and comprehend the English language
Ability to effectively communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follows plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind
Must be 21 years of age
Possess a valid driver's license
Possess a high school diploma or GED
Have NO felony convictions
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States to be appointed to this position
Successfully pass all modules of the six-week Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training
Possess the physical ability to successfully complete Defensive Tactics
Will be exposed to Oleoresin Capsicum during Basic Training and will be exposed while on assignment
Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety and security
Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury
Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently
Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations
Deal with individuals with a range of moods and behaviors, utilizing tactfulness and a congenial, personable manner
Work with people of the opposite sex, diverse racial ethnic groups, mentally ill and emotionally disturbed offenders
Communicate by talking, listening and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information, assignments
Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings
Willing and able to travel
Willing and able to work various shifts, days, afternoons, graveyards (nights) which includes a rotating shift schedule
TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire
Successful completion of a background investigation is required
Preferred
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and/or master's degree in Architecture or similar related field
Direct experience assessing facility conditions and identifying maintenance and/or repair activities
Experience that demonstrates prioritizing physical plant modifications
Experience negotiating project specifications
Experience developing operating strategies, plans, and procedures
Experience preparing financial documents, report and budgets for projects
Experience in Title II interpretation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
