Senior Database Engineer

Responsibilities
Design and optimize highly relational PostgreSQL database schemas for performance and scalability
Define database partitioning, indexing, and query optimization strategies
Work with software engineers to design efficient data access patterns
Deploy and manage PostgreSQL on AWS RDS, ensuring high availability and security
Evaluate and implement multi-region replication, failover, and disaster recovery strategies
Explore advanced PostgreSQL features such as logical replication, read replicas, and connection pooling for large-scale workloads
Analyze and resolve query performance bottlenecks and optimize database workloads
Define and implement monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions for database health
Assist in designing database sharding or horizontal scaling strategies as needed
Support live production deployments, troubleshoot incidents, and work on root cause analysis for database-related issues
Collaborate with DevOps, engineering, and infrastructure teams to streamline CI/CD for database changes
Ensure zero-downtime database upgrade strategies and version migrations
Implement backup, recovery, and retention policies to meet compliance requirements
Ensure role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and audit logging for data security
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of experience in PostgreSQL administration and performance tuning
Expertise in AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, including replication, failover, backups, and scaling
Experience with database monitoring tools (e.g., pg_stat_statements, AWS CloudWatch, Datadog, etc.)
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Experience managing high-volume, transaction-heavy relational databases
Strong knowledge of SQL tuning, indexing strategies, and partitioning
Experience designing and managing multi-region cloud deployments and disaster recovery strategies
Hands-on experience with database upgrades, schema migrations, and versioning
Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, or SQL-based automation) for database maintenance
Experience supporting live production environments with 24/7 uptime requirements
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Preferred
Master's degree
Experience with HL7, DICOM, or other medical imaging data standards
Familiarity with RDS Proxy, PgBouncer, or other connection pooling solutions
Exposure to Kafka, event-driven architecture, and real-time data processing
PostgreSQL certifications or AWS database-related certifications
