Senior Firmware Engineer, Abiomed
Johnson & Johnson is a leader in healthcare innovation, and they are seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to join their Cardiovascular team in Danvers, Massachusetts. This role involves developing smarter, less invasive treatments and collaborating with various engineering teams to enhance healthcare solutions.

Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize embedded software (primarily in C/C++ )
Maintain core system components to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability
Assist in designing control systems
Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and Software application engineers to resolve complex system-level challenges
Apply best practices in embedded software engineering, including CI/CD, automated testing, and system monitoring
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Embedded Software Engineering
3+ years in embedded systems, low-level firmware on STM32/ARM Cortex or ESP32
Experience with RTOS or bare-metal ARM environments
Strong C/C++ skills, microprocessor optimization, threading, and software design principles
Experience with UART, I2C, SPI, Wi-Fi, BLE, CAN, source control, and embedded build systems
Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and documentation skills
2+ years of Medical Device development experience
Preferred
Hands-on prototype work and functional verification for mechatronics products
Experience with contract manufacturing, PCB design/validation, and lab equipment
Experience with in-circuit emulators, JTAG debuggers and laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes etc
Knowledge of regulatory (FDA, EPA) and quality processes
Experience with software configuration management tools for source code control (Git), issue tracking (Jira), requirements management (JAMA)
Experience with medical device standards including IEC 62304, 60601, ISO 14971, 13485
