Responsibilities
Define test plans, allocate resources, and coordinate scheduling and prioritization of multiple test activities
Hands-on expertise with experimental test methods, including diagnostic transducer theory, application nuances, and limitations
Demonstrated leadership in guiding and holding accountable a diverse group of engineers and scientists
Skilled presenter of technical results and insights to management and executive leadership
Clear and effective communicator within multidisciplinary teams
Qualification
Required
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
Active DOE Q Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain Sigma 14/15
Preferred
Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, MS thesis, or PhD dissertation)
Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization in the NNSA complex
Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work effectively and lead multidisciplinary teams
Minimum of 5 years of experience leading technical teams through product realization and qualification at the component or system level
Proven ability to coordinate parallel experimental programs involving multiple principal investigators
Broad, multidisciplinary technical knowledge across relevant engineering and scientific domains
Hands-on experience with test equipment, instrumentation, and formal product qualification processes
Solid understanding of power spectral densities, mechanical vibration analysis, shock theory, and accelerated test methodologies
Strong foundation in solid mechanics, including fracture, fatigue and the finite element method
Demonstrated skill in margin assessment, devising test approaches to probe failure mechanisms and modes of concern
Experience with nuclear-weapon qualification processes, including test scoping, execution, and comprehensive documentation
Background in advanced composite materials and polymers, with an understanding of aging and durability considerations
