Data Center Facilities Engineer
Inside Higher Ed is seeking a Data Center Facilities Engineer to ensure the reliability and availability of critical facilities for IT systems. The role involves planning, design, construction, and maintenance of data center facilities, as well as managing projects and coordinating with contractors and vendors.

Responsibilities
Perform regular physical inspections of all building systems commonly found in a data center or mission-critical facility environments such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire life and safety, etc
Respond to and address facility problems as directed by data center manager. This may require occasional in-person response outside normal working hours
Provide assessment, design, and technical recommendations in support of critical facilities availability; may include development and implementation
Prepare, review, and analyze projects' technical plans and specifications for sound design, conformance with design guidelines and other related criteria, and pertinent codes or standards
Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans on less complex activities
Plan, research, formulate, and prepare project analyses in area of expertise
Develop and define scopes of work and estimates for projects
Manage design activity or projects in area of expertise, and/or manage contractor activities
Represent department on specific project teams and review committees
Develop SOPs for data center operations and MOPs for maintenance activities
Participate in department maintenance activities after hours and weekends
Supervising contractors performing service or maintenance
Support building access and loading dock activities
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline, or a minimum 5+ years of directly related experience working in or in direct support of data center or mission critical environments
Experience managing multiple projects at a time. Coordinating with contractors, vendors and multi-disciplinary teams
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems found in data center facilities
Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems such as: power distribution units, UPS, VFDs, CRAC/CRAH, Air Handlers, CDUs, etc
Ability to assess risk and evaluate alternatives to reduce risk
Experience in project management and ability to demonstrate specific attention to detail
Ability to use good judgment under pressure, convey information well in both written and oral form, and work in a team environment
Ability to collect and maintain reports and records for existing system architecture, current capacity levels, and ongoing maintenance and refresh cycle data
Basic understanding of emergency situations and escalation processes
Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, Visio or AutoCad
Good understanding of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems with StruxureWare Data Center Operations and Data Center Expert
Ticketing system experience using ServiceNow for incidents, requests, and change management
Requires 24-hour response availability seven days per week for emergency situations
Must be able to travel to data center facilities from place of residence within 45 minutes
Requires participation on the department's On-Call rotation schedule
Requires work after business hours and weekend work on occasion for maintenance and/or project related activities
Requires travel to multiple facilities as needed
May be exposed to noise > 80dB TWA
May work at heights 4 - 10 ft
Requires candidates to work onsite. Remote work limited and subject to management approval
Preferred
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems found in data center facilities
Data Center or Facility Management related certification
