Responsibilities
Inventing and creating new products, and new product opportunities
Identifying valuable problems and solutions; defining user needs, system architecture and technical pathways forward
Invent and engineer new electro-mechanical concepts
Identify product opportunities, define system architecture, and translate user needs into robust system and design requirements
Leading systems engineering and product development activities
Driving product realization from early concept through commercialization, ensuring we create successful outcomes that meaningful MedTech ventures can be built around
Work across global teams (USA ↔ Australia)
Collaborate daily with our Sydney-based engineering, design and venture-building teams
Co-develop system architectures, verification strategies, design reviews and technical decision-making with your Australian counterparts
Managing and integrating multidisciplinary technical teams
Coordinating systems, mechanical, electrical, software, design and human factors engineers to deliver high-quality, commercially viable results across all stages of the project lifecycle
Work with the Business Unit Director and Client to challenge the brief and identify valuable problems/solutions
Lead technical resources (Designers, Engineers and other specialties) to complete activities (value proposition design, concepting, detailed design, V/V) that create valuable new ventures, products and services
Work with the project lead to define solutions that are desirable/feasible/viable in the context of the venture
Assist the project lead to plan and estimating the project by giving input to the required activities and resources to achieve the project aim
Selects or modifies the most appropriate processes and methods to apply in PD activities
Defines the appropriate level of quality for PD Outputs and Outcomes and ensures it is achieved
Identifies and manages Product Risks appropriately, with effective controls implemented
Provide input to the Project Lead to identify and manage project risk
Ensure effective Technical Reviews for PD activities are conducted as planned
Coordinates and conducts effective System Level Design Reviews
Mentor and coach others
Qualification
Required
8+ years of experience working in product design and development, including track record of inventing/creating or leading the invention/creation of new technologies and products. Ideally in MedTech or similar regulated industries
Experience developing products and managing teams (three or more) of technical resources through all stages of the product development process, from concept through to production
Experience in managing, directing, and reviewing outputs from technical personnel of various disciplines in a cross disciplinary team
Strong understanding of medical device development processes and regulated quality systems (ISO 13485, FDA Design Controls)
Significant demonstrated understanding of product development processes, methodologies, and practices e.g. design thinking, agile development, design controls
Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering or similar technical discipline
