Collection Supervisor

Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City is seeking a Collection Supervisor to oversee blood collection activities at fixed and mobile sites. The role involves supervising staff, ensuring compliance with safety policies, and serving as a resource for donor criteria and phlebotomy procedures.

Supervises blood collections at fixed/mobile sites
Trained on all tasks required of Donor Care Technicians I, II, III, IV & V (as applicable)
Functions as a resource for staff in regard to donor criteria and vein suitability
Functions as a resource for donor questions and concerns
Functions as a resource for difficult venipunctures
Reviews QC documentation
Ensures staff compliance with SOPs
Determines job assignments, breaks and mealtimes for staff
Coordinates with mobile chairperson and volunteers
Handles or seeks help for emergencies that occur
Ensures compliance with CBC safety policies and procedures
Maintains confidentiality of personal information regarding donors and staff
Responds to staffing problems, donor/staff complaints, and counsels donors and staff as needed
Provides written evaluation of staff in regard to performance and compliance with SOPs
Provides documentation when needed regarding staff behavior and/or attendance problems
Promotes customer service and a positive image of CBC to the community
Maintains prompt and regular attendance
Responsible for responding to temperature/humidity alarms (as applicable)
Responsible for maintaining and reconciling monthly equipment inventory (as applicable)
Must be able to confidently communicate and interpret intermediate information in English to all members of the public and staff

Required

Mobile Staff Must have and maintain a valid operator's license (MO class E, KS class C)
Fixed Site Staff Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
Excellent knowledge of donor criteria and the interview and blood collection procedures
Excellent knowledge of vein suitability
Excellent knowledge of blood collection complications and care procedures to follow
Critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Ability to supervise a large, diversified staff
Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task
Computer skills
Phlebotomy skills
Good driving skills (as applicable)
Ability to meet projected production goals
Ability to manage staff within attendance and performance guidelines

Preferred

Degree in business or biological science preferred or equivalent experience
Phlebotomy certificate preferred
Current CPR certification or obtained within 6 months of hire
Prefer an individual with at least 12 months' experience in blood collections
Prefer an individual with at least 12 months' experience in phlebotomy
Prefer an individual with at least 12 months' experience in CDC, FDA, AABB and OSHA regulations
