Mechanical Engineer I

Responsibilities

Participates in the analyses, testing, specification, design and modification of production and test equipment, parts tooling and jugs and fixtures, required to maximize the utilization of manufacturing energy, materials and labor
Assists in dispositioning discrepant materials
Provides work direction and training to production personnel on new products and processes as required
Initiates and maintains test procedures for the purpose of keeping discrepancies at the lowest level within the manufacturing process
Participates in developing and modifying efficient manufacturing procedures
Assists in developing implementation plans for Engineering Change Orders (ECO)
Design, troubleshoot, repair manufacturing equipment with a focus on electrical expertise
Coordinate with design engineering for the rollout of new products
Leverage expertise in design, materials, and processes to refine manufacturing methods, considering equipment capabilities, assembly techniques, and quality control standards
Develops, implements, and maintains methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies
Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products
Estimate manufacturing/production costs, determines time standards/set time benchmarks, and makes recommendation for tooling and process requirements of new and existing product lines
Maintains records and reporting systems for coordination of manufacturing operations
Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design materials and parts, fabrications processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
Documents procedures, process qualifications, work instructions, shop aids, routings, and other vital information
Monitor product yield, provide product factory / field failure root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
Provide engineering support for the development of test jigs, fixtures, and gauges
Drive continuous quality improvement and cost reduction processes
Identify opportunities for preventing waste and inefficiency during production
Research and test design ideas to determine feasibility, utilizing lean manufacturing, kaizen, Six Sigma, and root-cause analysis to formulate and support innovation, corrective actions, and improvements
Validate design concepts through rigorous testing, employing methodologies like lean manufacturing, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and root-cause analysis to push for innovation
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gain insights and direction
Performs other duties as needed and assigned

Required

Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering – prefer Mechanical (all) or Electrical Engineering or Physics
0-2 years' experience
Knowledge of with analytical tools, workflow time studies, and process balancing
Working knowledge of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles, and theories
Good written and verbal communications skills
Ability to clearly recognize and export information relevant to sound manufacturing engineering design
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, problem solving techniques, and quality processes
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication
Able to work in a team environment
Good understanding of lean manufacturing principles
Proficient with MS office
Able to work independently with close supervisory guidance
U.S. Citizenship and are able to obtain/maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Security Clearance
