The internship provides students with hands-on experience in various skilled trades such as plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, and carpentry, preparing them for future employment opportunities.

Responsibilities
Assists and trains under electricians, heating and air conditioning mechanics, carpentry, plumbers, and/or general building maintenance in performing repairs, construction and maintenance in County owned and leased facilities as appropriate to each trade
Assists/trains with skilled tradespersons with major and minor repairs and maintenance and to use tools and equipment of the assigned trade
Assists/trains to install, test, and replace components of electrical circuitry and internal power distribution systems, including conduit, wiring, connections, receptables, breakers, panels, and switches
Assists/trains to install, test, repair door bells, buzzers, security systems, thermostats, lighting fixtures, and communication systems
Assists/trains to install, maintain, repair, or replace heating, air conditioning, refrigerating, and ventilating equipment and accessories
Assists/trains to install or replace duct work, replace belts and filters, lubricate motors and other components as directed
Assists/trains to perform carpentry work to include install, remove, repair drywall, load-bearing walls, flooring and ceiling tiles, trim and molding, and hardware
Assists in applying paints, stains, or other chemical coatings
Assists/trains to perform plumbing maintenance, repair, and installation work to include repair/replace/install small plumbing fixtures, appliances, and equipment such as wash basins, faucets, traps, vents, repair/replace fountains, toilets, urinals, hot water heaters, well pumps, install and repair various types of pipes, and installation and maintenance of air, steam, water, sewer, and gas systems, sewer and water lines
Assists/trains with routine and preventive maintenance to stationary building equipment such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, security, and fire alarm systems
Assists/trains with carpentry work to complete repairs to buildings
Assists in applying paints, stains, or other chemical coatings
May assist in preparing and keeping records of time and materials used
Prepares and cleans up tools, equipment and work areas
Performs other related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Baltimore County Public School (BCPS) – High School Junior or Senior with a career path in Plumbing, Electrical, HVAC, Carpentry or General Building Maintenance
Be referred from a BCPS magnet school learning coordinator
Excellent attendance record, strong time management skills and task-oriented
All applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable, as determined by a comprehensive background investigation for those candidates over the age of 18
Applicants selected over the age of 18 must successfully complete a background investigation
