The internship aims to provide students with hands-on experience in grounds maintenance, assisting specialists in various tasks related to the upkeep of County-owned properties.

Responsibilities
Under close supervision, assists Grounds Maintenance Specialists in the maintenance of the grounds and facilities of County-owned or leased properties
Trains to operate equipment used in grounds maintenance
Planting, watering, cultivating and maintaining grass on park and other County-owned and maintained grounds
Upkeeping and repairing of artificial and natural turf, trees, and shrubbery
Laying out, constructing, and rebuilding athletic fields, parks, and playgrounds
Installing playground apparatus, goal posts, and backstops
Erecting and repairing fences, barriers, park signs, and benches
Removing debris from park and playground areas
Replacing oil and filters on mowing equipment
Replacing belts and hoses on equipment
Inspecting, changing and repairing tires on mowers and other equipment
Preparing and cleaning up tools, equipment and work areas
Keeping simple records and logs
Performs other related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Baltimore County Public School (BCPS) – High School Junior or Senior with a career path in Grounds Maintenance
Be referred from a BCPS magnet school learning coordinator
Excellent attendance record, strong time management skills and task-oriented
All applicants must be of good moral character and emotionally stable, as determined by a comprehensive background investigation for those candidates over the age of 18
Applicants selected over the age of 18 must successfully complete a background investigation
Preferred
Experience with grounds equipment and tools training
