The Orlando VA Medical Center is seeking a Supervisory Biomedical Engineer (Clinical) to lead the Healthcare Technology Management Service. Responsibilities

Complete responsibility for conducting an equipment management program that meets current Joint Commission and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requirements. The breadth of technology is typical of a tertiary care and/or university-affiliated institution
Assuring the provision of a continuing education program for clinical staff addressing the principles and application of medical instrumentation used in the delivery of healthcare. This requires skill to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of individuals, including technical and professional clinical staff, to communicate technical information including the safe and effective use of medical equipment and technology
Managing a recall and safety alert program for medical devices, including medical device incident investigations to assure compliance with patient safety goals, Safe Medical Devices Act (SMDA), and Joint Commission requirements
Advising clinical, administrative, and leadership staff on medical engineering technology, including existing and emerging technology, addressing viability, long-term suitability, compatibility, and/or safety while keeping abreast of changes in technology and utilizing information gained in the solution of biomedical engineering problems
Conducting capital asset and infrastructure planning for medical equipment spanning initial concept, installation, and effective implementation of complex medical equipment
Serving as the institutional expert in the field of biomedical engineering who directly supports the most complex and specialized clinical technology including service, system administration, training, and quality assurance

English Language Proficiency: Biomedical Engineers must be proficient in spoken and written English
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's Degree or Higher in Engineering from an accredited institution or Certification as a Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) and a Bachelor's Degree not listed above
Completion of at least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower level, and must fully meet the KSAs at that level
Ability to manage overall department resources, i.e., finance, space, equipment, supplies, and staffing at a highly complex medical center or at the VISN level
Ability to develop local or VISN policies and/or draft directives related to healthcare technology management
Skill in balancing multiple responsibilities, setting priorities, delegating tasks and projects, meeting multiple deadlines, analyzing organizational problems, and developing and implementing effective solutions
Ability to analyze complex organizational and operational problems to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations, and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the area of responsibility
Skill in interpersonal relationships leading and dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers, within and outside the biomedical engineering program, to include conflict management, dispute resolution, mediation, or reasonable accommodations

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
