Fiduciary Accountant

The City of New York is seeking an Administrative Accountant for the Fiduciary Accounting Unit within the NYC Financial Information Services Agency-Office of Payroll Administration. The role involves preparing tax payments, reviewing payroll exceptions, and assisting with various accounting reconciliations.

Responsibilities

Prepare tax payments by acquiring information from the Report Management and Distribution System (RMDS) reports, updating federal and prompt tax payment spreadsheets and submitting Payment Request – Balance Sheet (PRB1) and Payment Hold Maintenance (PHM) documents in the City’s Financial Management System (FMS)
Review payroll check exceptions, make decisions pertaining to the checks and send out email notifications to the appropriate distribution group
Deposit checks into the collection account using a check scanner. Balance deposit batches prior to their submission for supervisory review and approval
Assemble cash receipt (CRE) packages and prepare CRE documents to book withholding taxes to the appropriate FMS Balance Sheet Accounts
Assist with the reconciliations of pension periodic, pension non-periodic, 3rd party disability, Management Benefit Fund, etc. tax payments on an annual basis
Document Fiduciary processes and write/update procedures for the unit and
Perform miscellaneous tasks of analytical/accounting nature as assigned by the Directors

Required

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting, auditing, and cost accounting and four years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity or supervising a staff performing accounting or auditing work
A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license and at least 18 months of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising a staff performing accounting or auditing work

Preferred

Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Experience with FMS and RMDS
