Biological Science Technician (Mineland Restoration)

Responsibilities

Conducts surveys and assessments of abandoned mine sites and features, including portals, structures, spoil piles, impoundments, and equipment
Conducts field visits and assessments of gas well sites and access roads
Assists with strip-mine restoration planning and implementation
Controls non-native invasive plants using integrated pest management methods such as manual hand digging/pulling, mowing, and herbicide application. Assists with monitoring the effectiveness of treatments
Organizes and maintains project equipment and supplies
Follows standard operating procedures to collect field data, enter data into databases, and assist in preparing reports and summarizing findings
Conducts field visits and surveys of hazardous mining sites, including portals, structures, spoil piles, impoundments, and other abandoned mine features
Performs routine and recurring monitoring of previously installed gates at mine portals
Conducts field visits and surveys of gas well sites and related infrastructure (e.g., wells, separators, metering stations, general site conditions, access roads)
Assists in strip mine restoration efforts, including surveying for wetlands, legacy infrastructure, acid mine drainage, sedimentation, erosional features, and other site conditions
Controls non-native invasive plants using integrated pest management methods such as manual hand digging/pulling, mowing, and herbicide application. Assists with monitoring the effectiveness of treatments
Collects and enters field data, prepares reports, and summarizes findings
Works with program managers to coordinate fieldwork activities and ensure project goals are met
Coordinates and provides work direction, training, and guidance to technicians, interns, and volunteers, including the use and revision of standard operating procedures, equipment, tools, data collection methods, and data management systems

Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
DRIVER'S LICENSE: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required
You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle
UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards
WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period
MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience
To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-06 GRADE LEVEL, YOU MUST POSSESS AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BY THE CLOSE OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service
OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate education in an accredited educational institution (18 semester hours) in coursework directly related to the work of this position
OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-07 GRADE LEVEL, YOU MUST POSSESS AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BY THE CLOSE OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-07 - At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service
OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate education in an accredited educational institution (18 semester hours) directly related to the work of the position
OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs
