Responsibilities

Perform electrical maintenance and construction on substation and generation control equipment, including system controls and metering. Prepare minor field designs to modify instrument and control circuitry, troubleshoot and correct system issues, and follow all safety procedures
Prepare and organize work (gather tools, materials, and instructions; coordinate with necessary contacts; stay updated on technical developments; report progress to supervisor.)
Test and verify new instrumentation, control installations and protective relay systems
Record and report test results and maintenance; update designs, drawings, and schedules
Perform substation visual inspections (equipment, structures, grounds) and record data
Participate in training programs to advance knowledge and skill level

Required

Full-rate Substation Technician status or an Associate Degree in Electrical Technology, automation controls, substation, or powerline construction. If you don't have a degree, five years of electronic/electrical maintenance experience may be considered
2 years' experience with electric utility substation construction and maintenance, or substantially equivalent military education/training required
Strong understanding of electricity, circuit systems, and diagrams, including solid-state and electromechanical circuits
A willingness to continually learn and improve your skills is important to keep pace with new equipment acquisitions and current developments in the control/electronics industry; standard testing may be required
Possess clear and effective communication skills using telephones and two-way radios
Physical ability involving frequently lifting and/or carrying of 50 lbs., reaching above shoulders, crawling, kneeling, bending, climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, having hand-eye coordination, vision in both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color, and able to hear
Ability to work in an indoor shop/plant environment, outdoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions (deep snow, ice, rain, mud, etc.), working with chemicals (solvents, degreasing agents, grease, oil, etc.), high voltage electrical energy and construction hazards
Valid driver's license is required
Possess a Class A CDL (commercial driver's license), or ability to obtain a Class A CDL with air brake endorsement if need is determined necessary in department
Must reside within 30 minutes of Hancock, Michigan Service Center under normal driving conditions
