FACILITIES PLANNING INTERIOR DESIGNER

UNM Hospitals is seeking a Facilities Planning Interior Designer to manage design elements and develop standards for hospital spaces. The role involves project management for the installation of design elements and leading multiple capital projects to ensure completion within scope, schedule, and budget.

Responsibilities

Develop and administer the division's annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures
Ensure project operations are in compliance with design specifications and University, state, and federal policies and regulations
Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems
Review and interpret proposed designs, architectural drawings, and building specifications for appropriateness to required fruition and/or institutional standard; initiate revisions where appropriate
Coordinate design review with department managers including the plan of construction, equipment and furniture specifications
Review and interpret proposed designs, architectural drawings, and building specifications for appropriateness to required FF&E, IT, and ASE procurement and installation
Participates in interior and exterior designed space of new facilities, additions, and renovations as assigned; concurrently manages multiple simple to complex projects from assignment through project close-out
Researches, composes, and formats content of all Interior Environments Standards to ensure a unified approach to quality, functionality, and longevity. Maintains broad knowledge of current and emerging products, materials, and design
Inspect buildings and office areas to evaluate suitability for occupancy considering such factors as air circulation, lighting, location, and size
Provide planning for project(s) Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FF&E); Information Technology and Communication (IT); Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) and Architecturally Significant Equipment (ASE) for assigned departmental projects
Independently manages designed space project development process and serves as primary liaison and collaborator between client groups, consultants, and various institutional service units. Provides support and guidance to leadership and project management team on area(s) of expertise
Oversees project design, bids, orders, and installation for clients to ensure design/function is achieved and consistent with overall Institutional design guidelines. Reviews, negotiates, and processes change requests and change orders
Reviews projects for affordability, consistency, and completeness of design, according to project objectives; inspects furnishings and finishes to ensure conformance to plans and specifications
Manages or oversees project support activities including development and maintenance of job files and tracking of project schedule and budget; directly responsible for scope, budget, and schedule development of assigned projects
Oversees and coordinates activities of contractors, vendor personnel, and suppliers: monitors contracts for compliance and controls costs. Performs quality control inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and industry standards
Prepare purchase requisitions for proper authorization and approve contractor invoices for payment within the approved budget
Research and prepare various reports pertaining to operations, equipment, policies, procedures, and/or other issues as appropriate
Prepare appropriate signage for remodeled areas to ensure continuity with the existing system
