Environmental Engineer – Senior Level – Remediation Focus (Hybrid)
Barr Engineering Co. is seeking a senior environmental engineer to join their Bismarck team. The role involves managing multidisciplinary teams and overseeing environmental assessments and remediation projects while maintaining client relationships and ensuring project deliverables meet quality standards.

Responsibilities
Apply environmental engineering expertise to investigate contaminated soil, groundwater, sediment, and vapor, and to develop and implement effective remediation strategies, feasibility studies, and site management plans
Oversee complex project scopes, schedules, and budgets while coordinating fieldwork, managing contractors, and helping ensure deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations
Evaluate environmental data and site-specific conditions to design practical, tailored solutions that meet technical objectives and regulatory requirements
Prepare clear, technically sound reports, work plans, and proposals; engage confidently in meetings and negotiations with clients, regulators, and project partners
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and regulators through proactive communication, teamwork, and a client-focused approach to problem-solving and project delivery
Qualification
Required
bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, geological, or chemical engineering or related discipline
10 or more years of relevant experience
registered Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to become registered within one year
strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets
Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite
possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future
Preferred
Master's degree in engineering or a related discipline
40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification
Project management and leadership experience with complex projects
Experience conducting communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory and agency personnel
Experience with staff mentoring, building client relationships, and business development
Previous consulting experience
