Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a highly motivated cybersecurity intern to join their team in Colorado Springs, CO. The intern will learn cybersecurity fundamentals and assist with various security tasks, including compliance preparation and risk management activities.

Responsibilities

Learn the fundamentals of Risk Management Framework (RMF)

Assessment and Authorization (A&A) activities

Security controls

Governance

Risk and compliance

Assist with the analysis of compliance and regulation trends

Help to determine possible courses of action

Learn and assist with the RMF lifecycle

Prepare for and follow up on A&A activities

Help with tasks related to compliance preparation

Evaluate the impact of security-relevant changes

Assess implemented patching and hardening

Evaluate overall system security baselines

Observe the level of support required for ensuring daily cybersecurity tasks

Ensure security operations

Ensure incident response are in compliance with appropriate cybersecurity framework guidance

Complete training towards at least one cybersecurity-focused certification

Required

Possess strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and teamwork, and analytical and research skills

Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information systems, computer software engineering or information technology

A rising junior or senior

Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal direction

Capable of clearly communicating technical topics with team members

GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale

Graduating in calendar year 2026 or 2027, not committed to other organizations after graduation, and would consider joining MTSI in the Colorado Springs, CO area after graduation

Ability to obtain/maintain a US government security clearance

U.S. Citizenship is required

Preferred

Familiarity with operating systems like Windows and Linux

Fundamental understanding of cybersecurity and network fundamentals to include firewalls, switches, encryption, and anti-malware software and configuration

Fundamental understanding of cyber risks and vulnerabilities

Fundamental understanding of system security architecture and design principles

Fundamental understanding of risk management

Understanding of NIST and other governing publications, such as NIST 800-53 Rev. 5 and the RMF lifecycle

Fundamental understanding of cloud and cloud infrastructure

Active US Secret Clearance
