Responsibilities
Develop, review, and rigorously model attorney bill rate structures that are financially sound and aligned with the firm’s strategic goals
Lead the annual attorney rate-setting process, collaborating closely with Business Unit Leaders and Senior Leadership to establish competitive and profitable rates
Create and maintain a comprehensive database of attorney billing rates for both new and existing corporate and individual clients, ensuring accuracy and accessibility
Conduct market analysis, specifically focusing on benchmarking attorney billing rates within the legal industry and relevant practice areas
Perform financial modeling and business case analysis to evaluate the financial impact of different attorney rate structures and market entry opportunities
Own and manage the attorney pricing process, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to firm policies and ethical billing guidelines
Oversee the financial intake of new matters and clients, ensuring appropriate attorney rate structures are documented and any deviations are escalated appropriately
Regularly analyze cost factors relevant to attorney service delivery, identify variances in realized rates, and reconcile any discrepancies
Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries related to attorney billing rates, providing data-driven recommendations and escalating complex pricing issues
Generate detailed financial reports specifically focused on attorney rate realization, trends, and profitability
Support attorneys and their teams with client-facing requests related to attorney fee monitoring and ad-hoc pricing needs
Qualification
Required
Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail, particularly in managing complex attorney rate structures
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with attorneys, finance professionals, and firm leadership on pricing matters
Advanced analytical and modeling skills specifically related to pricing in a service-based industry, with a strong understanding of cost structures and profitability drivers
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills for building and manipulating pricing models, and experience with financial reporting tools
Initiative and resourcefulness, with the ability to work independently and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment focused on attorney billing and financial analysis
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field required
Preferred
MBA or relevant professional certification preferred
Significant experience (3+ years preferred) in a pricing analyst role within a law firm or other professional services environment (e.g., accounting, consulting) is highly preferred
Familiarity with legal industry-specific billing software and practices is a plus
