Epic Implementation Project Director

They are seeking a highly experienced Epic Implementation Program Director to lead a significant Epic deployment within a large government health system, ensuring strategic alignment and effective execution across multiple sites.

Responsibilities
Lead the full Epic implementation program across a multi-hospital, multi-site government health system
Work closely with executive leadership and a strong PMO leader to maintain alignment, momentum, and accountability
Navigate a heavy union environment, ensuring collaboration and compliance with union structures and roles (including all non-management IT staff)
Engage teams, absorb concerns, and manage opposition thoughtfully while keeping the program on track
Drive readiness planning, workflow alignment, testing cycles, cutover, training, and go-live execution
Oversee workstream leads, PMs, analysts, operational leaders, and vendor resources
Identify risks proactively and creatively problem-solve under pressure to ensure program success
Provide clear, consistent communication to executives, governance bodies, and frontline teams
Support change management, adoption, and stabilization across acquired or merged entities
Qualification
Required
10+ years of healthcare IT leadership, with 7+ years leading Epic implementations, including multi-hospital or multi-site deployments
Extensive experience with Epic in M&A environments (hospital acquisitions, system consolidation, or shared instance deployments)
Prior experience working in government, public sector, or unionized organizations
Strong ability to lead in environments with resistance, competing agendas, and complex stakeholder dynamics
Hands-on approach: willing to dive into details, troubleshoot issues, and provide direct support to workstreams
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills
Ability to work onsite 25–50% depending on project needs
Preferred
Experience working with children's hospitals or large public health systems
Epic certification(s) preferred
Demonstrated success delivering projects with tight timelines and significant organizational constraints
