Responsibilities

Work on development projects from start to closure including: 1) problem definition, 2) data collection and analysis, 3) formal report writing, 4) presentations to broad audiences, and 5) recommendations for future work/improvements

Typical projects include experimental and simulation-based approaches to process improvement, product development, and general investigation of relevant scientific questions

Required

Must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in materials or related science or engineering degree

Materials Engineering background, lab experience working with metals, powders, refractories

Preferred

Experience with CAD (Solidworks), FEA (Abaqus), or materials/physics modeling (COMSOL)

Programming for data analysis and mathematical modeling (MatLab, Python, etc.)

Knowledge of materials characterization techniques (SEM, XRD, mechanical testing, etc)

Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory/industrial safety practices, e.g. In-person university lab courses or previous industrial work experience

Ability to analyze and clearly present complex data using software (Excel, Python, R, JMP, etc.)

Capable of writing clear, concise formal reports using word processing software (MS Word, LaTex, etc.)

Enjoy working safely alone with limited direct input from others, while also capable of working in a group setting at times

Aptitude for managing time effectively and prioritizing between multiple tasks during project lulls

Interest in fundamental metallurgy of Ti, Zr, Hf, and Nb-based alloys and their applications
