Development Engineer
MicroConnex, an Amphenol CMT brand, is an industry leader in the advanced development and manufacturing of critical medical devices. The Development Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end development of mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, focusing on building robust product and process platforms that align with the company's technology roadmap.

Responsibilities
Involvement in product and process platform development to enable modular, reusable design and scalable production capabilities
Integrate DFM principles early in the product lifecycle to ensure manufacturability, cost efficiency, and quality consistency
Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline production, reduce variability, and enhance process repeatability
Utilize technology roadmaps to guide future innovation, process capability growth, and manufacturing technology integration
Perform design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of products by applying sound engineering principles and analytical tools
Conduct analyses and validation testing of new materials, methods, and processes; document findings and recommendations
Create and maintain detailed CAD drawings and documentation (SolidWorks or ProE) compliant with internal and industry standards
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop manufacturing tools, evaluate process feasibility, and resolve production issues
Participate in technical proposals, providing input on technical approach, cost, and schedule estimates
Support project management in resource planning, milestone tracking, and risk management
Actively contribute to continuous improvement and automation initiatives within engineering and manufacturing
Work with cross-functional team members on knowledge-sharing for DFM, automation, and system integration best practices
Executes foundational design and analysis tasks under supervision
Assists with DFM review, manufacturing readiness and test planning
Participates in process improvement and automation learning programs
Builds understanding of company standards, procedures, and customer requirements
Independently leads platform and subsystem development activities
Champions DFM and DFA (Design for Assembly) reviews across projects
Drives automation integration and advanced manufacturing process improvements
Aligns product and process development with the company’s long-term technology roadmap
Mentors junior engineers and leads cross-functional design optimization efforts
Develops detailed designs by analyzing product or equipment specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capabilities
Performs diverse and complex design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of products by applying advanced engineering principles
Determines feasibility of designing new equipment or modifying existing equipment considering technical and economic factors, available resources, time constraints, and company planning, by performing detailed trade studies, applying analytical methods, and creating solutions, and establishing engineering plans
Provides technical information affecting long range plant and product engineering planning by researching manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages and limitations
Conducts complex analyses pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes and completes required documentation by applying advanced engineering principles and company standards, and generating detailed reports, procedures, or change proposals. Prepares documents and presents results to internal and external customers
Develops acceptance, engineering evaluation, development and qualification/certification test plans, procedures, and reports for large scale or complex products. Compiles and analyzes operation, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified equipment or product
Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, contractual specification requirements, cost-determining optimum solutions, and implementing recommendations
Directs preparation of product design data, which includes detailed drawings, assembly drawings, and installation drawings by coordinating with customer, engineers, designers, and drafters, interpreting complex customer and functional requirements. Develops critical data and makes advanced layouts and documentation necessary to present design proposals to customers
Reviews complex drawings and layouts to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies. Directs revisions and improvements to engineers or designers
Communicates with customer to establish understanding of customer’s technical requirements and convey design capabilities, product performance, and organizational expertise. Identifies new business opportunities
Creates technical proposals for customers by integrating knowledge of product, regulatory requirements, market, price point, organizational capabilities, and corporate strategy
Enhances products and processes by applying continuous improvement methodologies in design, manufacturing, and organizational areas. Directs or leads product and process improvement initiatives
Directs or coordinates and leads organizational improvement initiatives that involve cross-functional team settings and responsibilities
Provides leadership, trains, and mentors engineers
When required, creates and maintains project schedule, resources, and budget, which includes the generation of milestones required to complete assigned projects
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree in engineering/sciences or 5+ years of experience in a technical engineering role
A bachelor's degree in engineering/sciences with 3+ years of experience or 10+ years of experience in a technical engineering role
A bachelor's degree in engineering/sciences with 5+ years of experience or 15+ years of experience in a highly technical and related engineering role
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Proficient in MS Office Suite and SharePoint
Expertise in DFM/DFA methodologies and lead design practices
Strong knowledge of manufacturing automation and assembly process optimization
Ability to communicate and influence cross-functionally
Experience in process capability analysis and continuous improvement
Broad engineering knowledge across mechanical, electrical and manufacturing disciplines
Self-directed, innovative and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
Candidates must qualify as US Persons, defined as US Citizens or Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders)
Preferred
Preferred experience in product platform and process development roles
Preferred Industry backgrounds: Medical/FDA regulated manufacturing
Preferred Industry backgrounds: Automation and smart manufacturing
Preferred Industry backgrounds: Injection molding and extrusion
Conversational in any other language is a plus
