Payroll Supervisor

Responsibilities
Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department
Oversees the daily workflow of the payroll function
Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
Review, approve, and ensure accurate and timely semi-monthly payroll processing for 1,000+ employees, maintaining strict adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements
Audit payroll transactions for accuracy, including new hires, terminations, pay changes, benefits, garnishments, and tax deductions
Manage and resolve payroll-related inquiries with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality, while maintaining detailed documentation to support audit readiness and risk mitigation
Evaluate and enhance payroll processes to improve efficiency, reduce errors, and strengthen internal controls
Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws; monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary updates
Oversee ongoing payroll reviews to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely resolution of discrepancies
Recommend and implement updates to payroll software, systems, and procedures to address findings, maintain compliance, and enhance operational accuracy and efficiency
Manages payroll system configurations by creating and maintaining earning and deduction codes, PTO plans, and tax accounts
Analyze and reconcile various records, reports, earnings, and deductions. Identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions
Manage semi-monthly calculation of Short-Term Disability benefit
Facilitate and keep current Wage and Hour training for Management Team in coordination with Patelco’s policies
Partner with Accounting on general ledger administration and reconciliation
Lead the planning and execution of year-end payroll activities, including the preparation, reconciliation, and distribution of W-2s and other required tax documents

Qualification
Required
Have minimum 4+ years of current experience in Payroll field
BA/BS degree in Accounting, Human Resources or other related business degrees or commensurate experience required
Have advanced computer proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Window
Preferred
Experience working with HRIS and payroll systems (UltiPro/UKG preferred)
Have 2 or more years in business intelligence report writing
