Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. The Functional Project Management Leader provides high-level oversight and governance for the Laboratory's construction project portfolio, ensuring compliance with DOE directives and driving continuous improvement in project performance.
Responsibilities
Establish and maintain DOE-aligned project management standards, governance structures, and best practices; serve as the functional SME for project management systems, processes, and performance reporting
Lead and support project reviews (IPRs, EIRs, Management Assessments) by ensuring readiness, data quality, compliance, and coordinated communication, documentation exchange, and review close-out; provide guidance across core project management disciplines including progress, risk, configuration, and schedule management
Consolidate and analyze portfolio-level performance data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities; develop dashboards, metrics, templates, tools, training materials, and executive summaries to enhance consistency, transparency, and continuous improvement while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and accountability
Qualification
Required
Experience in DOE, federal, or large-scale construction project management, with emphasis on governance, assurance, functional oversight, and familiarity with DOE requirements and ISM principles
Experience supporting or coordinating project reviews and DOE Critical Decision (CD) milestones, with strong capability in project controls, performance reporting, and tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, and Power BI
Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and present complex technical data for executive and stakeholder audiences
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, technical teams, and diverse internal and external stakeholders
Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation
Must meet eligibility requirements for access to federal sites and programs; U.S. citizenship may be required
Pre-employment drug testing is required
Participation in LANL's strong safety culture is expected of all employees

Preferred
Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, or Business Administration
PMP or PgMP certification
Experience with DOE-compliant reporting
OSHA 30 or equivalent construction safety training
