Responsibilities

Analyze the existing optimization model and update it to accurately represent the Earth imagery collection constraints, such as required sun angles, cloud cover estimations (if available), and duty cycle limitations
Define payload operations modes and timelines (e.g., warm-up, calibration, imaging time) that must be incorporated into the autonomous schedule
Collaborate with the Optimization Specialist Intern to develop metrics for payload value (e.g., target priority, image quality) to drive the optimization function
Assist in processing and validating simulated mission data, ensuring the planned imagery collections meet mission requirements
Develop tools to visualize the output of the mission planner specifically related to target coverage and image footprint placement

Required

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or a similar field
To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2026 and August 2027
You must be available part time from January through May/June and then full time for the full duration of the summer internship program
This position requires U.S. citizenship
Experience or coursework related to Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) sensors or other Earth observation payloads
Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python with libraries like NumPy/Pandas/Matplotlib)
Strong interest in satellite mission design and data exploitation

Preferred

Demonstrated experience in operating electro-optical sensors and multi-band communication payloads
