PARK GROUNDS IMPROVEMENT SUPERVISOR I
City and County of Honolulu is looking for a PARK GROUNDS IMPROVEMENT SUPERVISOR I to lead multiple arboriculture crews in maintaining City trees. The role involves planning, scheduling, and monitoring the crews' performance, as well as addressing public inquiries related to tree care.

Responsibilities
Plan, assign, schedule, and monitor your arboriculture crews and contractors to ensure their performance and work meet the City's high standards
Investigate requests and complaints from the public, utility companies, private groups and governmental agencies regarding all issues related to the City's trees
Prepare and issue annual performance reports for staff
Conduct staff investigations for possible disciplinary actions
Qualification
Required
International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist (or one who will obtain the credential before completion of probation)
Citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment
Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field
Two (2) years of supervisory experience involving responsibility for a program overseeing the propagation and cultivation of various plants, shrubs, and trees and/or care, maintenance, and beautification activities for parks, gardens, streets, malls, or other landscaped areas
Knowledge of the principles and practices of horticulture and arboriculture
Knowledge of propagation and cultivation methods and techniques
Knowledge of techniques of tree trimming/pruning and relocation
Knowledge of techniques of plant, tree, and shrubbery arrangements
Knowledge of basic principles and methods of eradicating and controlling plant pests and diseases
Knowledge of budget preparation
Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of a group of employees
Ability to plan and establish grounds improvement and beautification projects
Ability to prepare reports
Ability to develop and implement training programs
Ability to deal effectively with subordinates and others
Valid Hawaii State driver's license (Type 3/automobile)
Current State Department of Transportation medical examination certificate
Hearing Conservation Test
Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B (prior to completion of probation)
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certificate (prior to completion of probation)
International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist credential (prior to completion of probation)
