The role involves developing innovative equipment and related process technologies for precision lapping of recording heads, managing projects from inception through to transfer to Seagate’s Thailand-based manufacturing site.

Responsibilities
Work with suppliers to develop the next generation of row bar lapping equipment to provide sub nanometer dimensional control
Effective and comprehensive project management: initial concepts, feasibility, integration, pre-production, and transition to Thailand-based volume manufacturing site
Identify and understand root cause sources of existing equipment and process challenges and develop definable solutions
Work with product and recording head development teams to understand requirements and translate those requirements into definable equipment and process specifications
Understand interactions with upstream and downstream processes with respect to the lapping process
Leverage statistical methods to provide confidence in project outcomes through comprehensive data analysis
Assess resource requirements, report results to internal management, and communicate to downstream customers
Qualification
Required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent ability to work in a cross-functional, cross-cultural team environment balanced with independent judgment and decision-making
Organized and able to efficiently manage multiple projects
Ability to supervise the activities of others
Ability to understand basic engineering principles behind the manufacturing processes and associated software applications
High precision equipment and process design, development, qualification, and manufacturing
Solid record of academic, professional, and personal achievement relevant to the job requirements
Lapping/polishing in the semiconductor or HDD industry or equipment development/design is strongly desired
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering field or Applied Sciences and 12+ years of experience, or Master's degree in the same and 8+ years of experience, or PHD and 5+ years of experience or equivalent education and experience
