Responsibilities

You will design, implement, and maintain email routing architecture leveraging Microsoft Exchange Online, hybrid configurations, and related services supporting 50+ email domains
You will manage mail flow rules, connectors, and transport policies to ensure optimal routing and compliance
You will oversee integration with third-party email security gateways (e.g. Zix, IronPort) and monitoring tools
You will configure and maintain anti-spam, anti-virus, and phishing protection using Microsoft Defender for Office 365 and related technologies
You will implement secure messaging solutions (e.g., encryption, TLS, DLP policies) to protect sensitive data
You have familiarity with PKI and Certificate management
You will monitor and respond to email security incidents, including spam outbreaks, phishing attempts, and malware threats
You will collaborate with InfoSec teams to enhance detection and response capabilities
You will implement advanced authentication and identity protection measures (e.g., MFA, conditional access)
You will stay current with evolving email security threats and Microsoft security roadmap
You will mentor a team of engineers and provide technical guidance on email routing and secure messaging best practices
You will partner with and drive resolution of complex issues through cross-functional teams (InfoSec, Network, Cloud Operations) while aligning email capabilities with enterprise architecture
You will develop and approve documentation, SOPs, and training for operational teams

Required

10+ years of Microsoft messaging engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Exchange Online, Defender for Office 365, Microsoft Purview, and hybrid email environments
Deep understanding of email authentication and anti-spoofing protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and threat mitigation strategies
Familiarity with secure messaging technologies, encryption standards, and compliance frameworks
Hands-on experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and troubleshooting
Experience with authentication and directory services in support of integration across platforms
Solid understanding of networking concepts such as IP addressing, firewalls, proxies, port usage, DNS and network devices (e.g. routers, switches) as well as experience troubleshooting packet capture analysis
Ability to deal with ambiguity, manage complexity, and drive results; ultimately, taking end-to-end ownership of the outcome
Adept at troubleshooting complex cross-stack issues using data and telemetry and driving timely resolution
Lead by example—mentoring engineers, guiding cross-functional initiatives, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and executives, producing well-structured proposals, architectural diagrams, and documentation
Experience operating in large, regulated enterprises (ideally financial services), and navigating governance, risk, and compliance
Experience with observability and SIEM interfaces with demonstrated experience in anomaly detection
Comfortable working with ITSM tools and frameworks (e.g., ServiceNow, ITIL) and integrating automated workflows for incident and change management
Experience with prioritizing workloads using agile methodologies
