Responsibilities

Develop and execute strategic business development plans to grow the civil engineering division, including identifying target markets, industries, and clients. Continuously assess market trends, competitor activities, and industry opportunities
Identify and cultivate new business opportunities by prospecting, networking, attending industry events, and establishing connections with key decision-makers within targeted sectors (e.g., transportation, water resources, land development, infrastructure)
Build and maintain long-term relationships with current and potential clients, including developers, government agencies, contractors, and private sector organizations. Act as the primary point of contact for client inquiries and project opportunities
Lead the preparation and submission of high-quality proposals, qualifications packages, and bids for civil engineering projects. Work closely with technical teams to ensure that proposals meet client needs, regulatory requirements, and company standards
Work with senior leadership and project managers to identify, prioritize, and pursue high-value projects. Develop tailored solutions and strategic value propositions to present to clients, addressing their unique needs and challenges
Conduct research on market conditions, emerging trends, and client requirements to stay ahead of industry developments. Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership for adjusting business strategies and offerings
Set and achieve business development targets and revenue goals. Track and report on business development progress, pipeline status, and closed deals. Ensure a consistent flow of new projects to achieve the division’s growth objectives
Identify potential partnerships, joint ventures, and alliances with other firms, subcontractors, or consultants to enhance service offerings and expand business opportunities
Promote the company’s services and brand through marketing campaigns, public relations efforts, and participation in industry events and conferences. Collaborate with marketing teams to create promotional materials, case studies, and presentations
Lead contract negotiations with clients and subcontractors, ensuring favorable terms for the company while maintaining positive relationships. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
Work collaboratively with project managers, technical experts, and senior leadership to align business development efforts with project capabilities. Provide leadership in driving the business development strategy across departments

Required

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in business development, sales, or client management within the civil engineering, construction, or infrastructure sector
Proven track record of securing new business and managing client relationships in a competitive market
Experience preparing proposals, managing bids, and leading negotiations for engineering or construction projects
Strong understanding of the civil engineering industry, including market trends, project types (e.g., transportation, utilities, land development), and regulatory requirements
Familiarity with civil engineering project management, design processes, and construction methodologies
Understand engineering terminology, project deliverables, and contractual requirements
Strong sales acumen, with experience in identifying and closing new business opportunities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create persuasive proposals, presentations, and marketing materials
Experience in developing and implementing successful marketing and business development strategies
Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to navigate complex contractual terms and secure favorable agreements for both clients and the company
Ability to understand client needs and deliver tailored solutions that drive business success
Proven ability to maintain long-term, productive client relationships
Ability to manage multiple priorities, track progress, and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and high-quality standards
Strong networking skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, clients, and industry professionals

Preferred

An MBA or additional relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, LEED) is a plus
Experience in government contracting or working with public-sector clients
Familiarity with industry software and tools such as CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce), project management software (e.g., Procore), and proposal management platforms
Existing relationships with clients and stakeholders in the civil engineering sector is a plus
