Materials Engineering Intern – Advanced Materials

Leidos Dynetics’ Advanced Materials Department is seeking a passionate, detail-oriented problem-solver to serve as Materials Engineering Intern in Summer of 2026. The role involves solving complex engineering challenges and working closely with a mentor on various support tasks beneficial to the intern’s skill development and the department's needs.

Responsibilities

As an integral member of the Advanced Materials Department, the successful candidate will serve as Materials Engineering Intern
This position will balance multiple activities including but not limited to:
Solving complex engineering challenges with both analytical and experimental approaches
Working closely with their mentor on various support tasks beneficial to both the intern’s skill development and to the needs of the programs the department supports

Qualification

Materials ScienceEngineering PrinciplesAnalytical Problem SolvingTechnical CommunicationLaboratory InvestigationsTeam Collaboration

Required

Currently enrolled in a degree program in Materials, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or equivalent from an ABET accredited institution
Fundamental understanding of Materials Science and Engineering principles and interest in applying these to solve complex problems through analytical and/or laboratory investigations
Solid technical communication skills and an ability to work in both collaborative team environments and independently
Must be a resident of North Alabama area or willing to relocate in order to work on-site at the Huntsville, AL office
Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

Preferred

Ability to stay focused and succeed in dynamic and fast paced environments
Experience assembling and providing technical briefings and clear guidance to non-technical audiences
