Recreation Assistant, Part Time - Athletics

The Village of Wellington is a family-oriented community located in Western Palm Beach County, seeking a Recreation Assistant for their Athletics Department. This role involves performing entry-level technical work in recreation or administration, assisting in the delivery of recreational programming, and ensuring a safe and efficient experience for participants.

Responsibilities

Opens and closes the assigned facility according to established programming and/or event schedule. May have additional duties associated with opening and closing the facility, according to area of assignment (i.e. assisting with sound and lighting equipment if assigned to the Amphitheater)
Collects registrations and monies from participants registering for programs or attending programs; maintains appropriate records regarding registrations and monies received
Checks in registered participants and guests according to area of assignment; performs required data entry tasks in entering registered and new participants
Assists in supporting appropriate staffing initiatives; including program/event flyers and various administrative duties
Assists where needed to ensure programs are conducted in accordance with established time frames
Responds to inquiries regarding program specifics from various entities, e.g., parents, program participants, children, program staff, and the general public
Inspects, issues, collects, and properly/safely stores any and all equipment used in the facility and/or area of assignment
Ensures all activities and/or events are adequately staffed; assists where needed to ensure programs run smoothly and without interruption
Monitors participants’ actions and activities to ensure adherence to standard and established safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and operating requirements; initiates application of appropriate disciplinary measures and documentation regarding actions taken
Performs minor custodial tasks and maintenance upkeep of the facility, e.g., ensuring activity areas are free of debris, ensuring sports surfaces are safe, wiping off tables/chairs in meeting rooms, sweeping the lobby, maintaining sanitary restrooms
Maintains positive communications with parents, instructors, custodians, children, program staff and the general public
Monitor events according to area of assignment, including reviewing contracts, signing in/out customers, taking customers through tour of facility, troubleshooting any potential problems and documenting entire event, and contacting proper staff personal if any problems that may occur
Recreation Assistants working at the WCC or Aquatics Complex are required to be trained on Rec Trac and must be able to do registrations and cash out procedures effectively within the first 30 days
Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position

Required

Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver License and the ability to drive a Village owned vehicle per established policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
Ability to be trained on Civic Rec (recreation management platform) and must be able to do registrations and cash out procedures effectively within the first 30 days
Regular attendance at work on-site is essential to maintain the necessary teamwork, personal interaction, and supervision that this position requires
Responds to emergency call-ins for hurricanes or other critical events
Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures
Ability to learn basic record-keeping with monetary transactions
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and applicable department and organization specific software and ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other specialized software as may be required
Skill in basic math including but not limited to adding, subtracting, multiplication, and division
Ability to multi-task while working with tight deadlines and shifting priorities
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files in numerical, alphabetical, or chronological sequence
Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with residents, coworkers, supervisors, administration, and vendors
Ability to clearly communicate and understand information in English, both orally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those interacted with during work regardless of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, disability, political affiliation, military service, or diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
Tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds)
Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment
Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
Tasks are regularly performed inside and/or outside with potential for exposure to adverse conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes and/or poor ventilation, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery and/or moving vehicles, vibrations, electric currents, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, gases or chemicals, oils and other cutting fluids, violence and/or disease, or pathogenic substances
Tasks require sound and visual perception and discrimination

Must have manual dexterity and be able to perform repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, or fingers
Must be able to perceive color and depth
Tasks involve prolonged eye use and/or fine visual ability; computer work, reading text, visual inspections, or measurement devices
Must be able to follow visual cues or signals

Preferred

High school diploma or GED preferred
Work experience in a customer service position that demonstrates effective communication skills preferred
Experience in a municipal parks and recreation function preferred
