Responsibilities

Provides oversight for shift operations and scientific support for his/her discipline to ensure that the Laboratory consistently performs accurate, reliable, and timely laboratory testing

Ensures that Laboratory staff are scheduled and assigned to necessary workstations

Ensures that equipment is functional

Ensures that staff are reassigned as needed to meet turnaround times

Ensures that Laboratory procedures are performed safely and to the required technical standards

Ensures completion of staff competency assessments

Provides input for staff performance evaluations

Assists with investigations of unsatisfactory work that may lead to disciplinary action

Maintains his/her own technical competencies and skills

Functions as a CLS working within the scope of practice described for CLS I and/or CLS II

Qualification

Clinical Laboratory Scientist licenseMT/MLS(ASCP) certification5 years CLS experienceBaccalaureate degreeTechnical competencies

Required

Baccalaureate degree in clinical laboratory science or equivalent

Minimum 5 years CLS experience in an acute care hospital setting in the past 8 years

Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist license - California Department of Public Health - Laboratory Field Services

Preferred

MT/MLS(ASCP) certification
