The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for regulating legal gaming in the state. They are seeking a Gaming Enforcement Legal Advisor to provide legal guidance to law enforcement and represent the Commission in legal proceedings.

Responsibilities

Furnishing legal guidance to law enforcement officers throughout all stages of their criminal investigative process, encompassing the issuance and service of subpoenas, the drafting of constitutionally sound search and arrest warrants, and advising on optimal practices for report composition
Representing the Commission in all Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act proceedings
Continuously reviewing the Division of Gaming Enforcement’s policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations

Required

Admission to the Florida Bar
At least two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law, or in administrative or judicial hearings, with at least one (1) year of experience in criminal prosecution or criminal defense
Must have a valid driver's license
Working knowledge of Fourth Amendment search and seizure law
Skill in drafting legal documents
Skill in managing multiple complex cases
Ability to use Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
Ability to prioritize work
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to conduct legal research
Ability to make oral presentations in court and in large groups
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques
Ability to manage a litigation case load
Ability to recognize and act on emerging issues and shifting priorities
Ability to adapt to changing work volume and variety and work efficiently under stressful situations
Ability to travel

Preferred

Misdemeanor or felony criminal trial experience
Experience advising law enforcement agencies
Experience advising law enforcement officers
Experience with Florida's Contraband Forfeiture Act
Experience reviewing search warrant applications
Experience defending or attacking search warrants
Experience drafting subpoenas
Experience defending or attacking subpoenas
Experience reviewing police practices and procedures
