R&D Systems Engineer II (Pre-Clinical)

Responsibilities
Monitor and manage research timelines and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of projects
Stay current with industry trends, advancements, and best practices in preclinical research
Communicate effectively with team members, management, and external partners to provide updates on research progress and outcomes
Set up capital equipment devices and perform full system connections with appropriate functional tests prior to studies being conducted
Identify and troubleshoot issues that may arise during preclinical research studies
Contribute to the preparation of research reports, presentations, and publications
Adhere to company policies and procedures, including those related to safety and confidentiality
Represent the company at conferences, seminars, and industry events as needed
Attend cases in customer accounts and advise physicians on clinical attributes and techniques associated with specified products
Qualification
Required
Master's or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related technical field
3+ years of experience in preclinical research, including a proven track record of conducting and managing preclinical studies
Relevant experience with data analysis and interpretation
Demonstrated ability to support complex studies independently
Ability to communicate study results effectively to a broad audience, including individuals with limited clinical background
Ability to correlate study results with practical design needs and provide clear, actionable recommendations to the Design team
Preferred
Previous relevant experience in medical devices or a similarly regulated industry (pharmaceuticals, aerospace, automotive safety, etc.)
Experience working with capital equipment, electromechanical systems, or integrated medical device platforms
Familiarity with preclinical study protocols, animal research models, and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) expectations
Experience supporting clinical or physician-facing activities, such as procedure observations or technical case support
Knowledge of risk management principles (e.g., ISO 14971) and how preclinical data informs hazard analysis and design mitigation
Ability to develop test methods or contribute to verification and validation strategies
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (R&D, Clinical, Quality, Regulatory)
