Mechanical Systems Engineer II - New Glenn Upper Stage

Responsibilities

Participate in the entire design cycle of aero-decelerator and mechanical subsystems, including conceptual and detailed design, trade studies, structural analysis, development testing and qualification
Drive designs to cost targets to enable reduced cost of accessing space through innovative, efficient solutions
Generate 3-D models, component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents with application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
Create documentation for assembly and testing of development and flight hardware
Participate in subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis
Develop component specifications and manage suppliers
Provide manufacturing and production support

Required

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience designing aerospace or equivalent type mechanical system elements within aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicles
Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D modeling tools (PTC CREO Parametric preferred)

Preferred

Proficiency in performing hand calculations and applying first-principles physics to rapidly assess design feasibility and support engineering judgment
Experience in structural FEA using ANSYS, NASTRAN or similar tools
Experience with MATLAB / Python and Artificial Intelligence tools
Experience with mechanism kinematic analysis tools
Experience in aerospace designs such as separation systems and/or deployable devices
Experience with re-entry decelerator systems and devices such as trailing parachutes, inflatables, etc
