Director, Business Development & Strategy (Natural Gas, Data Centers & Utlilities)

Brightsmith is engaged in a high-priority search for a Director of Origination to lead strategy and execution for a natural gas thermal business. The role focuses on capturing market share within the Data Center market through high-yielding deal acquisition and requires a commercial leader with expertise in bridging commercial, technical, and financial dimensions.

Responsibilities

Drive the execution of the natural gas / thermal incubation plan across commercial, technical, and financial tracks
Negotiate LOIs, tolling agreements, and structured offtakes (capacity, fixed heat-rate PPA, BTM EaaS). Build partnerships across the natural gas value chain, including OEMs, midstream players, and brokers
Oversee techno-economic studies of reciprocating engines, aero-derivatives, and CCGT options, ensuring alignment with data center and utility customer needs
Manage diligence on gas supply, storage, and transport while tracking interconnection feasibility and milestones
Maintain and refine business case models (LCOE, IRR, LCOD) and support financing workstreams with robust data and analysis

Required

8–12 years of experience in energy infrastructure (developer, utility, IPP, consulting, or private equity)
Broad exposure across commercial development, project origination, and financial modeling
Strong program management skills, with the ability to coordinate consultants and internal teams in lean environments
A track record of taking ownership and executing effectively in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
Deep interest in the role of natural gas and thermal assets in supporting reliability for data centers and utilities

Preferred

Familiarity with ISO/RTO markets (PJM, ERCOT, MISO preferred)
