NEOGOV is seeking a Writing Center Tutor to work closely with a diverse student population at Western Nebraska Community College. The role involves providing guidance on writing techniques, helping students identify errors, and developing their independent editing skills to foster academic success.

Responsibilities

Provide academic instruction and support to students in English usage, writing techniques, and effective communication strategies

Assist students, individually and in small groups, with the development and completion of outlines, paragraphs, essays, research papers, and other written assignments

Identify writing errors, explain the reasoning behind necessary corrections, and coach students through revising their work

Support "at risk" students by offering additional guidance and targeted strategies related to the area of assignment

Reinforce classroom lessons related to sentence structure, grammar rules, punctuation and capitalization, academic writing styles, citation formats, and integration of source material

Maintain a professional and supportive learning environment that fosters student growth and self-advocacy

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in EnglishTeaching experienceTutoring experienceCommunication skillsDiverse learner interaction

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred

Previous teaching or tutoring experience in higher education or English is preferred

Experience positively interacting with people from a variety of backgrounds, setting goals and developing strategies to improve student performance, and communicating complex concepts to diverse learners preferred
