Temporary Part-Time High School Project-Based Learning (STEM) and Oceanography Teacher
Mid-Pacific seeks an experienced, student-centered, and innovative teacher to lead learning in project-based classrooms. The role involves facilitating learning in STEM and Oceanography through project-based settings, fostering motivation and independence in learners while developing essential content knowledge and soft skills.
Education
Responsibilities
Designing authentic, experiential, and interdisciplinary experiences for students including project- and/or challenge-based learning strategies
Working with faculty partners to design authentic classroom lessons that make a break from traditional content-based textbook learning
Sculpting questions that motivate students to learn independently and in groups
Incorporating educational technology into classroom activities that enable authentic skills and behaviors
Drawing interdisciplinary connections and marshalling resources that serve questions across disciplines
Working with community organizations to leverage student learning and create real-world applications and audiences for student work
Project- and/or challenge-based learning theory and design
Managing and assessing student portfolios and presentations of learning to various audiences
Carry out all homeroom / advisory responsibilities
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in core disciplinary areas of Science (Chemistry/Biology), Technology, and/or Engineering
Experience designing authentic, experiential, and interdisciplinary experiences for students including project- and/or challenge-based learning strategies
Experience working with faculty partners to design authentic classroom lessons that make a break from traditional content-based textbook learning
Experience sculpting questions that motivate students to learn independently and in groups
Experience incorporating educational technology into classroom activities that enable authentic skills and behaviors
Experience drawing interdisciplinary connections and marshalling resources that serve questions across disciplines
Experience working with community organizations to leverage student learning and create real-world applications and audiences for student work
Experience with project- and/or challenge-based learning theory and design
Experience managing and assessing student portfolios and presentations of learning to various audiences
Ability to carry out all homeroom / advisory responsibilities
Outstanding interpersonal communication skills
Team-orientation and adaptive teaching and collaboration skills
Ability to manage a budget and work effectively with outside vendors or community partners
Preferred
At least two years of teaching experience in secondary school and with a diverse student population is strongly preferred
Expertise and interest in digital media, graphic arts, or photography is an advantage
Previous experience with project-based instruction and/or International Baccalaureate preferred, but not required
