The Nondestructive Test Technician is a position of varying ability (basic to advanced) who performs the duties of test piece preparation, mechanical testing, chemical testing and/or metallurgy of product at different stages of manufacture; from raw material testing to finished product testing
He or she will receive or access a purchase order, job router, Internal Testing Order, and audit the Test Order against customer requirements (or Industry Standards) and generally accepted quality processes
He or she will perform and document all testing in accordance with the Test Order and governing specifications
The Lab Test Technician is responsible for monitoring his or her time spent on each job as well as logging that time against the job
The Lab Test Technician is responsible for maintaining process control of material and job activity while the job is in his or her possession
The Lab Test Technician is responsible for understanding work and job priorities and working to meet the company's established production and shipping plans
The position requires lifting up to 35lbs., standing, sitting
Able to perform visual and dimensional examination on parts and pieces for machined and blueprint items
Identify defects in solid materials, using ultrasonic testing techniques
Make radiographic images to detect flaws in objects while leaving objects intact
Prepare reports on non-destructive testing results
Select, calibrate, or operate equipment used in the non-destructive testing of products or materials
Qualification
Required
Must be able to prepare specimens and perform PT, MT, and/or UT processes on material and/or welds
Must be able to review the Internal Test order and perform testing in accordance with specified requirements
Must clearly and accurately record results of testing in Lab database and ERP system
Must be familiar with Calibration of Measuring and Test Equipment
Must be able to review and evaluate root cause of testing failures
Must have a background with, able to read and interpret ASTM ASME and similar testing standards
4-6 years relevant experience in quality control practices
Experience with working knowledge of material and generally accepted quality specifications required
Ability to accurately and efficiently use all common hand and bench measurement tools is required
Experience in the safe handling of material in accordance with generally accepted quality practices
Able to read and interpret industry and customer specific requirements
Preferred
Technical/Trade School, preferred
Experience in the Machine Shop environment, with knowledge of machining capabilities desired but not required
Experience in the commercial nuclear power generation industry desired but not required
Knowledge of and experience with Fastener specifications desired but not required
