Computer Programmer II, Children's Research Institute
UT Southwestern Medical Center is a world-renowned medical and research center located in Dallas, Texas. The Children’s Research Institute is seeking an experienced bioinformatics programmer to develop custom data analysis tools and maintain a website for metabolite analysis. The candidate will work collaboratively with a team of scientists and have opportunities for professional growth in computational biology.

Responsibilities
Defines problems presented by other programmers or users or assists research and other personnel in defining problems for computer solutions, determining methods of approach, selecting, modifying, or writing new programs, and structuring data formats for solution of problems
Studies assigned program descriptions
Writes and test-runs programs, including preparation of all levels of documentation and flow-charts, computer instructions (code) and test data
Documents procedures used throughout computer program
Checks programs for logical sequence of machine operations and proper performance
Modifies existing programs of moderate complexity as required to fit new circumstances
Assists computer programmers in developing, testing, and revising programs
Assists users and other programmers in use of special programs and techniques as required
Provides working supervision to Computer Programmers of lower grade
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School or GED and plus successful completion of vocational training in computer programming
3 years in computer operation and/or programming
1 year as Computer Programmer I or equivalent
Programming experience in R and/or python
Preferred
Familiarity with metabolomics data analysis tools like MetaboAnalyst
