Sr. Backend Developer
Summit Technologies, Inc. is looking for a Senior Backend Developer to support the IRS Business Tax Account modernization initiative. This role focuses on building secure, scalable, and high-performing server-side applications and APIs within an AWS/Kubernetes federal environment.

Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of secure back-end services, RESTful APIs, and microservices that integrate with IRS digital platforms
Implement best practices for cloud-native applications in AWS and Kubernetes, ensuring compliance with IRS Publ. 4812, FISMA, and NIST 800-53
Collaborate with product owners, technical leads, and stakeholders to translate user stories into functional back-end features
Support CI/CD processes using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, SonarQube, and automated testing frameworks
Conduct unit and integration testing and help develop automated test coverage (90%+ for critical functionality)
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, including root cause analysis and long-term fixes
Contribute to performance tuning, scalability testing, and capacity planning to meet IRS performance standards
Qualification
Required
7+ years of back-end development experience, including 3+ years in a senior/lead role
Expertise in Java, Node.js, or Python for enterprise back-end development
Strong knowledge of secure software development, encryption, authentication/authorization, and federal cybersecurity compliance
Experience with RESTful API design, microservices, and cloud-based database architectures
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Podman), Kubernetes, and AWS cloud services
Experience in Agile/Scrum environments delivering iterative releases
Familiarity with IRS cloud environments, FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST 800-53
Experience with Jenkins, Git, SonarQube, NexusIQ, Selenium, and AppDynamics
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
CompTIA Security+ (Required)
AWS Certified Developer – Associate (Required)
Must have an active Public Trust Clearance (Tier 2 Moderate Risk)
Tier 4 High Risk Public Trust may be required depending on requirements
Preferred
Certified Scrum Developer
AWS Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
CSSLP or similar secure software development certification
