Education
Responsibilities
Prepares surfaces before painting by: removing nails, washing, scraping, sanding, puttying, patching, mudding and taping, etc
Repairs chips or scrapes on walls, ceilings, and furniture and completes texturing tasks
Applies paint to walls, equipment, buildings, and other structural surfaces by using brushes, rollers and related equipment
Mixes, blends and matches paint to proper color and consistency, using computer
Maintains records of paint colors for assigned buildings
Operates equipment such as spray equipment, striping machine, scaffolding, and motorized lifts
Hangs wall paper and applies other decorative finish elements to walls and other surfaces
Cleans equipment, shop area, and work site
Provides limited technical guidance and direction to less senior technicians
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned such as assists work in the other areas of the Finishes Shop
Qualification
Required
Basic knowledge and understanding of building trades
Four years of directly related work experience. Incumbents must possess journeyman skills and/or a license
Skilled with various hand and power tools common to trade
Knowledge of different types of floor coverings and installation and repair techniques
Knowledge of repair process for walls and surfaces
Ability to select and apply paint
Knowledge of various types of painting and finishing materials and application techniques
Ability to take direction from supervisors
