MILITARY PAY TECHNICIAN
USAJOBS is seeking a Senior Military Pay Technician to serve as the primary point of contact for military pay issues within the Department of the Air Force. Responsibilities
As the senior technician, monitors, reviews or initiates complex transactions where guidelines lack specificity to requirements, circumstances or problems, and/or frequently change. Researches, audits, and completes a variety of the most difficult procedural and technical tasks or complex pay actions (e.g., correction and adjustment of several items involving various and multiple pay changes such as overturned disciplinary actions, allotment reconciliations, etc.)
Serves as the primary point of contact on reserve pay actions and coordinator on resolving reserve pay matters. Determines the appropriate processes and follows-up on a wide variety of complicated reserve pay actions requiring the use of numerous different and unrelated procedures
Manages and/or assists lower-level technicians in resolving more complicated debt collection cases. Cases typically require extensive coordination with other personnel, including research, review and application of prior year laws, regulations, GAO decisions, and audit of several months to years of pay history
Accomplishes the more difficult customer complaints and technical military pay issues. Responds to management, higher headquarters, IG, and congressional inquiries relating to pay related matters. Prepares responses to higher headquarters or other official requests regarding military pay issues
Assists with training lower level clerks/technicians on miscellaneous technical tasks and various complex actions in support of military pay actions. Demonstrates work procedures/methods and addresses questions, problems, or errors. Reviews logs and/or suspense files to ensure payment schedules and amounts are correct. Performs quality control and spot checks on data compiled by lower-level clerks that affect changes to member's pay, allowances, and entitlements

This is a Financial Management Level 1 Certified position IAW the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2012, Public Law 112-81, Subtitle F-Financial Management, Section 1599d
Incumbent shall comply with the requirements of this certification program
Must be able to maintain and obtain a Secret Security clearance
This is a temporary position (not to exceed 17 April 2026)
Recruitment for this position is limited to the Department of Defense
Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems
Knowledge of a large body of rules, regulations, laws, and variety of procedures for one or more military pay specializations; the data system(s) used to support military pay actions, and federal debt collection rules and regulations
Knowledge of a variety of accounting and budget functional areas and their relationships to other functions to research or investigate problems or errors that require reconciling and reconstructing incomplete information
Skill in performing arithmetic computations to compute military pay
Ability to interpret/apply regulations and procedures related to military pay, debt collection, and various complex actions
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to present and/or advise on processes/actions
Ability to operate a calculator and use a keyboard; a qualified typist is not required
